In 1891, Bathurst’s Machattie Park introduced two notable additions: the grand ornamental fountain and the Monro drinking fountain, both imported from Scotland’s renowned cast-iron foundries and transported over the Blue Mountains by rail.
These installations reflected a period of civic pride, when regional towns were investing heavily in beautification and modern public amenities.
The fountains not only elevated the park’s visual appeal but also supported the growing need for accessible public drinking water.
